Château Raymond Lafon is a sweet natural white wine produced under the AOC Sauternes appellation. The estate extends over 18 hectares, 16 hectares are in production. Château Raymond Lafon benefits from a remarkable exposure/ The chateau lays on the most beautiful terroirs of Sauternes. The famous Château d’Yquem, known worldwide is actually its neighbor.
We definitely recommend to enjoy Les Jeunes Pousses with our slow cooked Duck Foie gras South West of France IGP.
Tasting notes: A syrupy but very well balanced by the high acidity that you will find in the Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Then, you will also enjoy candied fruits, honey flavors.
Sauternes appellation lays on the left bank of the Garonne. In this region, you can surely enjoy the perfect climate to produce a sweet white wine of exceptional quality.
Indeed, in the morning mist that rises every summer morning to attack the vineyards to dissipate in the afternoon heat allows the growth of botrytis cinerea, noble rot, on very ripe grapes: a fungus which, when controlled, allows the concentration of sugars, acids and aromas in the very heart of the grape berries, while providing their aromatic signature. Retaining a large part of the residual sugars, Sauternes wines are syrupy but very well balanced by the high acidity brought by the type of grape varieties used, Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Great wines for laying down, Sauternes can be kept for several decades in the cellar: the best vintages from the beginning of the last century still have a lot to tell us.
