Ten years on, the Sheung Wan district has become trendy and well over half a million of gourmets, of all origins, have patronized this little shop. The next Chatté generation is now in charge and the passion for quality food is intact! From this Sheung Wan base, Monsieur CHATTÉ retail gourmet business grew to include deli corners in GREAT Food Hall (Pacific Place), THREE SIXTY (Elements) and YATA (APM Kwun Tong). It also made a specialty of delivering boardroom meals, setting up buffets, organizing corporate or private cocktails parties and supplying Junk boats. Thanks to its team efforts and commitment, Monsieur CHATTÉ has become a household name for the production of quality French Food at affordable prices.

In 2008,
Jean Yves CHATTÉ passed by an empty shop in Sheung Wan and fell in love with its unique architecture. He immediately figured out how he could turn it into a heaven for French gastronomy. In May 2008, the new Monsieur CHATTÉ French gourmet shop was inaugurated by the, then, French Consul General, Mr. Kaspi.  Many thought the location was weird. Most shops in Bonham Strand were selling dry seafood and Chinese tea. Nearby Jervois street was nicknamed “Snake Street” and Sheung Wan district was regularly flooded. Fortunately, after only a few days of operation, a Food Editor spotted the shop, popped inside, bought a few items and wrote about a “new gem in Sheung Wan’’.

In 1996,
Monsieur CHATTÉ first Gourmet shop opened in Heng Fa Chuen MTR shopping mall, alongside the first CARREFOUR supermarket to open in Hong Kong. This shop did a solid business until 1999 when Carrefour decided to retreat from Hong Kong. All shop were closed and the mall was redeveloped by MTR.

In 1989,
Jean-Yves and Marie-Christine CHATTÉ decided the time was right for a new challenge and moved from Bordeaux to Hong Kong with their 3 young children. Within a few days, they found a home, put the kids at school and registered their first company, Grands Crus de France Ltd. Office was in one of the bedroom and their first business venture was ready to take off. Jean-Yves spent 70% of his time traveling over the Asian continent, selling French wines. Ten years later he sold his shares in his company and set up a new wholly owned wine business, M.C. Group. Still active today, it is now run by his elder son, Romain.

Leon and Suzanne Chatté open their first “Charcuterie Traiteur” shop near Paris, and Chef Léon immediately creates his signature foie gras recipe still produced today by Monsieur CHATTÉ in Hong Kong.
