Vacqueyras Domaine des Fontnobles

Vacqueyras red is the name of an appellation but also a City.

Located in the southern Rhône Valley, Vacqueyras is a charming Provençal village. Its quaint, narrow streets that lead toward the church, houses nestled against the ramparts and cottages are part of its charms.

It is in the small hamlet of Fontbonne in Vacqueyras that the Bertrand family has perpetuated the Rhone wine-growing tradition since the Middle Ages. Today father and son work together on the estate and share both their hobbies and their taste for a job well done. The Bertrand family has a competitive spirit where a need to excel is affirmed.

“Val Queyras” literally means “Valley of Rocks,” a name that perfectly reflects the character of this exceptional Provençal terroir. Our vines grow on a broad plateau near Fontbonne, where the dry, windy landscape consists of small limestone rocks.

Although the land appears rugged and inhospitable, it reveals remarkable natural treasures. A peaceful pond, a clear spring, a secluded grove, and even the majestic flight of partridges bring life to this wild setting. Here, the vines face challenging conditions, while native plants struggle to take root.

This harsh yet beautiful environment gives Val Queyras its distinctive identity. Surrounded by untouched landscapes and shaped by the authentic nature of Provence, the vineyard expresses the region’s wild, mineral, and untamed character.

Vintage: 2022

Grape Variety: 50% Grenache, 45% Syrah et 5% Cinsault

Tasting Notes:

This distinctive Vacqueyras wine combines Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault grapes. Together, these varieties create expressive aromas of ripe fig and crushed strawberries.

On the palate, the wine feels smooth, generous, and richly textured. Its gentle, fleshy sweetness leads to an intense chocolate finish. Meanwhile, the first sip brings freshness and energy, leaving a vibrant impression.

This Rhône Valley red wine captures the warmth and character of its Provençal terroir. As Erasmus once suggested, wine can become a refuge for the soul. This Vacqueyras proves the idea beautifully.

Food Pairing: grilled meat, cold cuts or a Pont L’Eveque.
