Chateau de Fonbel, Saint Emilion Grand Cru
Chateau de Fonbel, Saint Emilion Grand Cru vintage 2020 now available at Monsieur CHATTE cellar.
The history of Château de Fonbel refers to the Vauthier family. This wonderful vintage, nestled near the medieval town of Saint Emilion is one of three properties managed by Alain and Pauline Vauthier who work every day to produce exceptional wines.
Château de Fonbel spreads over 16 hectares in the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation, on gravelly, clay and sandy soils
Alain Vauthier and his daughter Pauline (Châteaux Ausone and Moulin St.-Georges) have significantly raised the level of this property using the same methods as for Château Ausone. They put all their expertise in this property to achieve a very large Saint Emilion Grand Cru. The average age of the vines in the vineyard is 20 years and the harvest is done manually. The fermentation takes place in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats and the aging takes place in barrels of which 30% are new for 12 months.
Grape Varieties: 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit verdot, 3% carmenere.
Tasting Notes: At first, the bouquet delivers beautiful aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry and raspberry. Then, the palate is harmonious and flamboyant with its beautiful juice and its long finish. Overall, this wine pairs nicely with red meats and certain game.
Food Pairing Suggestions for Chateau de Fonbel
The chateau pairs deliciously well with some roasted Chicken. It can be a great friend with Creamy Pasta, dishes with Sauces and Seafood.
Depending on the vintage, part of the wine is vinified in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks.
Then, the wine goes into barrel to give lightness, elegance and flavour.
As you may know, the Château de Fonbel blend always contains around 85% Merlot, complemented by the other grape varieties.
As a consequence, it allows a wide range of blending possibilities. Challengers by nature, and benefiting from certain innovations before their illustrious neighbours, the estate’s wines express their fruit, elegance and subtlety with well-integrated tannins that make them easy to drink in their youth. The good balance and freshness also give it great ageing potential.
