Domaine du Chatelet Saint Joseph red

Domaine du Chatelet Saint Joseph red vintage is 2024.

Mainly located on granitic terraces with steep slopes, Saint Joseph appellation beneficiates from a South / south east exposure. It is the second largest appellation in the northern Rhone Valley, with 90% of the production being red wines.

Manual harvesting of the grapes with partial destemming of the harvest.

Grape Variety: 100% Syrah

Syrah is a testament to the granite-rich soils of the Saint-Joseph appellation, offering a drinking experience that is both powerful and incredibly graceful.

Why it stands out?

Saint-Joseph is famous for producing Syrah wines that lean into elegance rather than heavy extraction. The “Châtelet” cuvée is a standout example of this style. It is carefully crafted—with grapes 100% de-stemmed and aged in tonneaux (larger oak barrels)—to ensure the wine retains its vibrant fruit profile while developing the silky, polished tannins that enthusiasts crave.

Tasting notes: At first, The wine has a vibrant robe showcasing deep purple hues. Then you will enjoy a an aromatic profile rich with violets, fresh blackberries, and raspberries, underscored by classic Northern Rhône notes of black pepper and subtle Mediterranean spices. Overall, the wine is harmonious and balanced. It delivers a beautiful interplay of dark fruit and mineral tension, finishing with a silky elegance that makes it incredibly approachable yet suitable for cellaring.

Food pairing recommendations: Given its refined structure, this wine is a versatile companion for dining with Red Meat: It pairs beautifully with grilled lamb or beef, where the peppery notes of the Syrah complement the char of the meat. It is also a great friend with Hearty Dishes. Consider serving it alongside game meats or a classic beef stew.

  • Cheese Pairings: For a sophisticated cheese board, this wine pairs exceptionally well with aged hard cheeses. The savory, slightly salty profile of a 30–36 month aged Parmigiano Reggiano or a nutty Comté will highlight the wine’s fruity depth without overwhelming its delicate spice notes.
