Lirac is an appellation located on the western side of the southern Rhône Valley.
Domaine de Cigalounes is a charming seven-hectare estate that has been certified organic since 2012. Situated on a rocky plateau between the villages of Tavel and Lirac, across the Rhône from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the vineyard benefits from its distinctive terroir. The vines—Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre—are cultivated using traditional methods in red soils rich in iron and minerals, topped with a pebbly layer. The estate practices sustainable viticulture, respecting the environment, soil health, and local biodiversity.
Winemaker Sévrine Lemoine, who adopts a non-interventionist approach, focuse on elegance and silky tannins rather than over-extraction.
TWinemakers hand harvest the Grapes at peak ripeness. They carefully select only the finest fruit. Ms Lemoine arranges fermentation for each variety separately. They will use selected yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks over a period of three weeks. To add subtle complexity, 20% of the final blend is aged in barrels.
Tasting Notes: First, this dark ruby color reveals a very powerful nose. For instance, it blends red and black fruits with notes of myrtle. Then, the palate, broad and rounded, retains its flavors. We note presence of soft tannins which end with a lovely finish marked by a touch of bitterness. Overall, this is clearly a beautiful representation of the appellation.
Food Pairing recommendation: This wine will pair beautifully with white meats such as Roasted Chicken and Roast Pork on a BBQ. Try it as well with some cheese platter .
