Vacqueyras from Domaine D’Ourea is a production from Southern Rhone.
Ourea is the name of the Greek God for mountains and heights and as this domaine owns the highest vineyard in Gigondas up amongst the Dentelles de Montmirail the name is very fitting for this incredibly beautiful vineyard does indeed feel very special.
The robe is opaque ruby. Then the aromas are deeply pitched black and blueberry and blackberry aromas hint of smokiness and licorice. Also the palate has hints of broad plum, blueberry and cassis flavors are accented by olive and cracked pepper. The Syrah element really shows here. Finishes supple and long, with smooth tannins making a late appearance and folding nicely into the wine’s plush fruit.
