Les Grottes Blanches, Vouvray Demi Sec
Grape Variety: 100% Chenin
Soil: Les Grottes Blanches, Vouvray Demi Sec vineyards are situated upstream from Tours in the North of the Loire valley. Vines are planted on clay limestone and clay siliceous grounds on the Chalky “Tuffeau” soil.
First, grapes are handpicked over ripeness during October. Some of the grapes are therefore hit by noble rot called botrytis. Importantly, grapes are then very concentrated on natural sugar.
Wines ferment very slowly over a period of a month.
Wine Tasting Notes: At first a golden colour. This wine is semi-dry the wine. It gives a sweet sensation with a dry finish on the palate. Moreover, a concentration of rich flavours develops fruity aromas such as fresh grapes and ripe quinces. Overall it also denotes a slight honey taste. It features a powerful nose evolving into aromas of ripe fruits with white flesh (peaches, pears), acacia blossom and subtle toasted notes. On the palate it is round and smooth with lovely balance. Fresh and lively aftertaste.
Vouvray wines can be kept for many years.
Food Pairing Suggestions: Being off-dry, this wine will pair greatly with foie gras, with any type of blue such as Bleu D auvergne or Roquefort but also with any kind of deserts.
