Indeed, this old vineyard is an association of a blend of the three main grape varieties of the region, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The winemaker couple also owns two other estates: Château de Marjolaine and Château Saint Seurin de Léviac.
About Chateau Lamothe Castera vineyard
First, near by the Atlantic Ocean, Château Lamothe Castéra is located in the heart of Entre-deux-mers. Naturally it enjoys a temperate oceanic climate. Moreover, the vines are planted on the hillsides . Importantly, they are on the central plateau in order to avoid the humidity present in certain zones further downstream.
The diversity of this clay-loamy soil in some places allows the blossoming of the vines. Approximately half of the red grape vines grown is Merlot.
The rest is spread with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
About the winemaker of Chateau Lamothe Castera
Renaud Jean is a sort of rebel in his field. A few years ago, he decided to deliver entry level wines with cabernet Sauvignon based with high quality. It was in response to the constraints related to the Bordeaux and Bordeaux superior defense and management organization.
Apart from easing production rules, he has built up his approach with the aim of segmenting the offer. Above all, he managed to connect the consumers’ needs with the production potential of the vineyard.
Grape Varieties: 20% Merlot, 80 % Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes: At First an intense Rubis robe. Then, an explosive nose with aromas of red fruit and vanilla. At last, a well balance palate, fruity without bitterness.
