Chateau Haut Ferrand, Pomerol 2012

Grape Variety: 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.

Located on the right bank of Bordeaux, This Pomerol was founded in 1702 by Elie de Bétoulaud.

First, the property remained in the family until December 1977, when Baron Bich, founder of the eponymous company, acquired the estate.

Then, when he died in 1994, his daughter, Pauline and her husband, Philippe Chandon-Moët, took over the property.

They carried out several works in order to improve the quality of wines .

In 2012 The Pomerol received the status of  Grand Cru Classé. Planted at an altitude of 100 metres, this is one of the highest in the Saint-Émilion appellation.

This geographical location allows for good ventilation of the vineyard. Also it has a perfect drainage, thanks to a natural slope.

Château de Ferrand committed to an ecological transition process. implementing an environmental friendly practices . As a consequence, it received the certification Terra Vitis since 2012 and HVE level 3 since 2018.

They harvest manually the grapes. The wine makers sort them three times (in the vineyard, upon arrival of the harvest in the cellar and then one last time via optical sorting. Finally they carry vinification on a plot-by-plot basis.

Delicate and very precise, the wines keep seducing over the vintages.

Indeed you can recognise in each vintage their structure, aromas of very ripe red fruits, delicate freshness and fine tannins.

Tasting Notes: At first a dark ruby red wine with violet hints. The herbaceous nose is not so intense. The palate is full of ripen raspberries, plums, spices, cocoa.

Overall, the wine has a Medium body and acidity and Tannins are now velvety and smooth. To drink by now or keep ageing couple of years.


Food Pairing recommendations: Game, veal, roast turkey, tagliatelle with mushrooms , truffles and foie gras are great friends with this wine.
