Chateau Carlmagnus Fronsac 2016
Arnaud Roux-Oulié is the 3rd generation of winegrowers. His grandfather, Ernest Roux, acquired Château Lagüe in the 1950s and launched the estate. In his youth, Arnaud took advantage of precious wine advice from him. Françoise Roux, Arnaud’s mother, ran the vineyard for a few years. Then, Arnaud took over the business from the age of 20 and diversified it by acquiring 2 hectares in order to create his own estate, “Château Carlmagnus”.
The name of the estate is inspired by Emperor Charlemagne, who stayed in the region and built a fortress. Since then, this cru has become one of the flagships of the Fronsac appellation and its distribution is international. In 2011, Arnaud bought a new estate, Francs-Magnus (upper Bordeaux).

The story
In 1663, the Duke of Richelieu decided to acquire the lands of the Duchy of Fronsac for his family. It is therefore on the ruins of the old fortress that his grand-nephew, Marshal Arnaud du Plessis, Ducde Richelieu, had a “madness” built, the scene of gallant festivals whose echo spread to the court of Louis XIV.
From then on, the notoriety of Fronsac wines will continue to spread and the other Libournais wines predominate, including Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. In the 18th century, the qualitative revolution of Libournais wines will take its roots here and the rise of world maritime trade will largely contribute to establishing the Fronsac vineyard among the noblest of the Bordeaux vineyards.
